    Hello Jackie,

Welcome to the Marie Curie online community. We’re sorry to hear about the recent passing of your mum. It’s understandable that you have questions about some of the practical matters you may need to be helping your dad with at this time, like his benefits.

While we are not benefit advisers, we do have some information on state pensions that may be helpful to you. Any potential changes to your dad’s state pension could depend on things such as if your mum had a better National Insurance record than he did or if she paid into an additional State Pension. Our website and also www.moneyhelper.org.uk have more details on this -

If you have other questions or simply need a listening ear at this time, we are here for you on the community and on Freephone 0800 090 2309.

    Take care,

    Claire – Support Line Officer

    Hi Jackie,

The Pension Service would hopefully be able to advise you and your dad on this. They can be contacted on 0800 731 0469 and the government website says that they are open Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 3:30pm - www.gov.uk/contact-pension-service

    Take care,
