    Hello,

As we have been talking on here about both books and films which focus on grief, I thought I would start a thread on podcasts as this can be a popular way of accessing discussions and support.

For me, I love podcasts as I can listen to them when it suits, whether this is while I am doing jobs around the house or out on a walk.

Probably my favourite podcast on the topic of death and grief is Griefcast by Cariad Lloyd.

Cariad’s own dad died from cancer when she was 15 and in Griefcast she interviews writers, actors, comedians all about someone they have loved who has died. It is funny at times and very open, warm and insightful.

I would love to hear of any podcasts on this topic that you have found useful.

    Many thanks,

Laura, member of the Marie Curie Online Community Team

    Hello, Laura,

Thank you for starting this thread! I, too, love podcasts and am looking forward to recommendations by community members.

Apart from Griefcast I cannot think of any podcast with grief and death as a single focus, but there are a few that have interviews about someone's life that will inevitable touch upon these topics.

One of my recent favourites is Gyles Brandreth's podcast Rosebud. His interviews include actors and other public figures that do not often do podcasts. I was very moved, amused, and entertained by his interviews with Kristin Scott Thomas (who lost both her father and  then her stepfather as a child but also recently lost her mother), and Hugh Bonneville (who, according to himself, fled into admin as a coping mechanism without realising that until many years later that that was what it was).

Another is Strangers on a Bench: the musician Tom Rosenthal just talks to random strangers in a park for about half an hour at a time. Grief often comes up, but as a natural part of the conversation. It is a very gentle podcast.

I like how both normalise and make visible grief as something that is part of everyone's life.

    Best wishes,

💛 Anke, your fellow-member of the Marie Curie Online Community Team

Thank you so much for sharing Laura and Anke.

This is a newer area for me so I’m certainly looking forward to seeing our Online Community members suggestions.

For those who don’t know, we have a podcast at Marie Curie, On the Marie Curie Couch, with monthly episodes where guests share their grief and bereavement experiences, breaking taboos and encouraging end of life discussions.

Here’s a link to the latest episodes: https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/blog/topic/podcast.

If you’ve had a chance to listen, let us know what you think below 💛
