Hi / Mam was told yesterday they are stopping all treatment now other than morphine / this is after a 3 year battle - my brain is in utter turmoil as I try to process this and support my 88 year old Dad as well - how on earth do you stay sane ? I’m off work this week as really struggling - any help or advice would be really appreciated thanks x

    Hi Judith,

I am sorry to read about the news that mum was given yesterday. Even when we know that loved one has a terminal condition being told that treatment is stopping can give us a sense of disbelief and shock. These may be some of the emotions you experience. Lots of people tell us that these emotions are intense and overwhelming. Many people find it helpful to talk to those they love and trust. It may also help your family and friends to understand more about your situation and how they can support you. You may find the information here helpful: https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/help/support/being-there/helping-someone-cope/dealing-with-feelings

If talking to family and friends is too difficult, or you don’t have people you can turn to, you might want to talk to someone who is removed from your situation. On our Support Line we are available to offer a listening ear if you, your dad and any other family members need to talk to someone. You can reach us by calling Free phone 0800 090 2309, or you can drop us a line via Web Chat:
