I don’t know how this works. I’m wanting to chat with somebody as I’m alone at the moment. My husband is in hospital and is moving to hospice care on Monday if he is still with us. I have MS and my husband is my career. I am overwhelmed, overthinking and can’t cope when I’m on my own, like now. I have family and they are amazing but can’t be here 24/7.

    Dear Stephb,

Thank you so much for reaching out to Marie Curie. I am very sorry that your husband is currently in hospital and very poorly. It must be very difficult especially since he is your carer. It is understandable that you are overwhelmed and wish to talk to someone. Given that your family are supportive but not always available, you have taken a very positive step contacting Marie Curie to see how you can best cope with this situation and look after yourself, too.

I am concerned to hear that you are not able to cope on your own at the moment. It sounds like you need help now.

The easiest and most immediate way to talk to someone is to call the Marie Curie helpline, which is available 8am to 6pm during weekdays and 10am to 4pm at the weekends. Calls are free from landlines and mobile phones, and the number is 0800 090 2309.

If you would prefer to write to talk to someone, which can help sort out thoughts for some (it has helped me much in the past), the Marie Curie chat line is a good option. If you go to the Marie Curie website (www.mariecurie.org.uk), you will see a button in the bottom right corner to connect you to the chat. If the chat is busy, you are welcome to wait or check again later.

Finally, I hope that some Online Community members see your post. Some will have been in similar situations and may have experiences and kind words to share.

    Sending good wishes,

💛 Anke, a member of the Marie Curie Online Community Team
