Ive never posted on a forum before, my 48 year old son has just been diagnosed with a grade 4 brain tumour.  He lives with his fiancé, and my husband and I care for him 2 days a week. After the diagnosis confirming terminal illness, we were given no information or advice on where to get emotional or financial support. He has a sister who is married with 3 children, they are devastated too. We have now been in touch with Macmillan who have been brilliant. We're struggling with overwhelming emotions and anger, wondering how others cope?

    Hi Tippytoes,

I am sorry to read about your son's diagnosis and want to reassure you that is normal to have many overwhelming emotions and anger. So many people tell us that talking can help and both the Community and our Support Line are here to provide you with a safe space to express these thoughts and feelings. Whilst it is heartwarming to read that you have wide family support, sometimes it can be easier to offload to somebody who is not emotionally involved with the direct situation and if you feel this would help then know that we are here.

I am glad to read that you have been on touch with Macmillan but please don't hesitate to speak to us as well if you are looking for information or signposting.

I am hoping that other community members will be able to reach out and share some of their coping mechanisms with you, but in the meantime it is important to remember to be kind to yourself. Focus on what you need to do to manage each moment or day and don't be afraid to ask family and friends to help with practical tasks like shopping and gardening.

Please stay in touch and let us know how you are doing.

    Best Wishes

    Brigette- Support Line Officer
