Hi, My nan has Rhumatoid Arthritis, is extremely frail and bedbound. She has been in a care home for 3 years. This is taking a massive toll on my mum (only child) and I am taking the brunt of my mum's struggling as well as coping with nan's terminal decline myself. I had a mental breakdown when my grandma died 11 years ago and while I was never as close to my nan as I was to grandma I'm worried about the fallout for my mum and myself when nan eventually passes. Looking for support from people who've been there, thank you.

    Hello Kbaker87,

    Welcome to our Online Community.

We’re sorry to read about your nan’s diagnosis and everything you’re going through.

It sounds as though things are difficult for you at the moment.

You mentioned that you had a mental breakdown previously, is there anything that you feel was helpful for you during this time?

You’re more than welcome to speak to us here on the Online Community as often as you like, and our Support Line is also there for you.

You also mentioned that you’re worried about the fallout for yourself and your mum. Have you heard of Relate before? They’re a registered charity that can help with relationships. If you would like to read more about the support that they offer you can find more information here: https://www.relate.org.uk/

Hopefully other members of the Online Community will see your post, offer their support and share their situation with you too.

    Take care,

    Marie Curie Online Community Team
