Thank you for the add. My younger sister has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and has been given a timescale of around 12 months. I am being strong for her and our elderly parents but emotionally I’m being ripped up inside and go from being positive to tearful to angry with people around me. Is this normal?

    Hello Autumnal

I’m so sorry to read about your sister’s illness and the timescale she has been given.

Supporting a love one with a terminal illness can evoke a wide range of emotions and there really is no right or wrong way to feel. It can be normal for these emotions to fluctuate regularly and rapidly.

Whilst people often tell us that they feel the need to be strong for their family, it is also important to look after yourself. Having the space to talk openly and honestly about how you feel can be a helpful experience and our Support Line is here to listen if you ever need to talk on Freephone 0800 090 2309.

Would you feel comfortable and able to talk to your GP about how you’re feeling? They may be able to suggest appropriate support options that may be useful to you.

    Take care,
