I recently lost my nan and mom in January (they were mom and daughter) my nan lived with us and unexpectedly got I’ll on a holiday to Ireland to visit family. My mom then passed 10 days later. I’m 20 and my mom and nan were my whole world. I am having councelling with Marie Curie which is helping but some days I really am just lost. I have been diagnosed with depression which is another blow to me as I am usually such a bubbly person. My whole world seems to be collapsing around me and I’m terrified something bad will happen to someone else. My mom passed from lung cancer which I didn’t know she had and I didn’t know she was dying so both deaths were a huge shock for me.

    Hello Palmer,

Thank you for joining us on the community. We are very sorry to read about the loss of both your nan and mom and in such a short space of time. It’s understandable that you’re feeling in shock and going through the feelings you describe. It may help to remember that there is no right or wrong way to grieve, and everyone deals with grief in their own way. People often tell us that they find being able to talk to others who have been bereaved helpful, and hopefully others on the community will reach out and share their ways of coping with you.

We feature some information about stages of grief on our website that you may find helpful, you can read more about that here: https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/help/support/bereaved-family-friends/dealing-grief/grieving-your-way.

We’re glad to read that you are speaking with one of our counsellors and that you are finding this helpful. If you ever need someone to talk to our Support Line is here to listen and offer emotional support. You can reach us by calling Freephone 0800 090 2309, or via our web chat.

    Take Care,

    Bonnie
