My best friend was diagnosed with cancer in September and 4 days ago she was told it was terminal. I'm struggling to know how to deal with it. Everyone around me is upset but still laughing and joking and I'm finding that hard, I feel guilty if I smile or laugh it seems so disrispectful. I've never had to deal with this before ,I want to support her in every way I can and don't want to let her down. Any advice? X

    Hi Bettyboo,

I am very sorry to read about your friend’s diagnosis and of how hard this is impacting you. Everyone reacts to this news like this differently and there are no right or wrong reactions. Reactions can be as unique as friendships. If it helps, we have lots of practical information on ways you can help as well as support for you, available on our website here: https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/help/being-there.

Lots of people tell us that it helps to talk about the situation and you are very welcome to contact us on the Support Line if you would like to chat about your thoughts and feelings. As we know, this time of year can be particularly difficult for families and friends so we feel it is important that we are open every day over Christmas.
