  • Mum and brain mets

Mum was diagnosed with brain mets after we thought she had had a stroke after displaying stroke like symptoms. Mum wouldn't stay in the hospital so we had to wait a week for a whole body scan to try and find the primary. We went back for the results on Thursday but they hadn't been written up. She had an oncology appointment for this Friday coming but after lots of perseverance I have managed to get it moved to Tuesday but at a different hospital. I'm sorry for the rambling post but I am really struggling with the not knowing.her GP put her on steroids and they have helped massively almost to the point you wouldn't think anything was wrong. Mum had breast cancer 13yrs ago and the go thinks the Mets could be from that and he said we are most likely looking at palliative care. Does anyone have experience of this or can offer any advice.

    Hi Polpringle,

I am sorry to read about your mum’s diagnosis. We are not medically trained here at the community or on the support line so cannot help you with specifics about mum’s illness. Being given the news that a loved one has a terminal illness can be overwhelming and many people find it helpful to gather information, to help them to prepare.  We can help you with some information about palliative care.https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/help/terminal-illness/diagnosed/palliative-care-end-of-life-care. If you would like to talk about things in more detail please call our Free phone Support Line on 0800 090 2309, or drop us a line via Web Chat: https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/help

    Best Wishes
