Hello my sister, only sibling, rock has terminal secondary breast cancer. She has always been a slightly larger person and always had a good appetite for food. But recently she has completely lost it and is hardly eating at all. I am scared this is a sign of near the end of her. Is there help advice I can give her to encourage her to eat more? Thank you

    Hello TBisme,

    Welcome to our Online Community.

We're sorry to read about your sister’s diagnosis and all that you’re going through as a family.

When people are approaching the end of their life, they might eat and drink less or stop eating and drinking. Changes to someone’s eating and drinking can also be caused by other things. You may wish to speak to your sisters health and social care professionals, such as her GP or District Nurse to discuss this with them.

We have information on our website about eating and drinking less that you may find helpful and wish to look at here: https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/help/support/terminal-illness/manage-symptoms/stop-eating-drinking-end-of-life

If you would like to speak to a member of the team in more detail you can call us for free on 0800 090 2309 or book a call and we’ll arrange for them to call you. Our Information and Support Nurse will be available from Monday. While our Information and Support Nurse isn't able to provide advice, they can certainly share further information on eating and drinking with you.

    Bye for now,

    Take care,

    Bonnie
