I have booked myself into a hotel for two days by myself to get respite care away from my caring responsibilities...

    Hi Bluebluelucy,

Thanks for joining our Online Community. It is important whilst caring for someone to have some time to yourself also. Looking after ourselves helps us look after someone else.

I'm sure many people will resonate with you in needing some respite from time to time. Hopefully others will share their experiences with you also.

We're here for you if you need us.

Hi Hannah, Thanks for your reply. As a carer, will I be able to keep my hotel booking under the new lockdown guidelines. I will be asking the same question at our online care for the carers zoom group tomorrow. I hope it can be justified as an exemption to the rules for staying in a hotel as a respite from my caring role. Do you have any thoughts on this as a valid reason for keeping my booking. The hotel is only 20 miles away from home. Thanks

    Hi Bluebluelucy,

Thank you for your response. The guidelines that have been released at the moment state "Hotels, hostels and other accommodation should only open for those who have to travel for work purposes and for a limited number of other exemptions which will be set out in law.”

It does not list respite as being an exemption currently, but more guidelines are set to be released later on this week. We are continuing to make sure our information on the website reflects this so please feel free to check on our pages here for further guidelines: https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/help/support/coronavirus/government-rules-coronavirus

You may also wish to contact the hotel you are planning on staying in directly as they may have more information around this.

    Take care,
