Just been to the hospital with my ex/now friend and been told he has terminal cancer been given month to live.

Feel numb he’s the sort that holds everything in so can’t show any emotions in front of him.

He has asked me to help him with everything, paperwork etc also wants to arrange his own funeral.

    Hi Sue1965,

We’re sorry to read about your friends’ recent diagnosis.

It’s understandable you’re feeling numb, especially after being told such news. If it’s helpful for you, we have some information on supporting someone who has a terminal illness on our website here: https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/help/support/diagnosed/practical-emotional-support/supporting-someone.

When someone has been diagnosed with a terminal illness it can be difficult to know where to start. We have created a check list that you and your friend may find helpful: https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/globalassets/media/documents/how-we-can-help/planning-ahead-checklist-2024.pdf.

Is there anything you feel would be most helpful for you and your friend at the moment?

If you would like to chat through anything in more detail, please feel free to respond to this message. You’re also welcome to call our Support Line for free on 0800 090 2309.

    Take care,

    Marie Curie Online Community Team
