My mum who is 80 has, 2 weeks ago been diagnosed with bileduct cancer which has spread to her lungs liver and stomach. She has swollen legs and feet, is loosing weight (apart from her tummy) has little appetite and is very yellow. I feel that things are coming to a quick end and I feel I’m searching for something but don’t know what. I would love to hear from anyone with any advice x

    Hi Jolouise69,

I’m sorry to about your mother’s diagnosis. Witnessing a loved one’s health deteriorating can bring with it many powerful emotions. It’s not uncommon to find it difficult to articulate how you are feeling or to know what you may want to ask.

Some people find having an understanding of the changes that can happen towards the end of life helpful and one way of making it less difficult to cope. We have information about this here - www.mariecurie.org.uk/help/support/being-there/end-of-life-preparation/changes

Family can often have questions about their loved ones illness and the symptoms they are experiencing. As we are not health care professionals here on the support line I would like to suggest Cancer Research UK’s line where you can speak to a nurse, their contact number is 0808 800 4040    www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-us/contact-us/talk-to-our-nurses?secure=true&wssl=1

Having outside support such as somewhere you can talk can be helpful. If you would like to talk about things in more detail please call our Free phone Support Line on 0800 090 2309, or drop us a line via Web Chat:

    Best Wishes
