Hello Alycia.
We are sorry to read about the recent sudden death of your dad. It is completely normal to feel shocked. Are you able to tell us some more when you say you ‘don’t know what to do’? Is it around practical things or emotionally, or both? If you feel able to call us on the Support Line you could talk to us about how you are feeling at the moment and we can discuss support that may be available. Freephone 0800 090 2309.
Of course, you can also post again on our Community board and other people may also be able to share their experiences with you and we can also respond to you.
Take care.

Hi Alycia,
We’re sorry to read about how you are feeling and how
the sudden loss of your dad is affecting you.
Grieving can be painful because losing someone important
to you can be very distressing and can come with some powerful emotions.
Over time the grief and pain you feel will usually
become less strong. Most people find that they can adapt to a life without the
person who has died. But there is no timescale for how long this will take
because it is different for everyone.
When you are grieving it is very important to be kind to
yourself – and do what feels right for you.
It’s understandable that you may not know what to do about
some of the practical things that occur once someone has passed. We have some information
around the different practical things that may happen and what you can do on
our website here: https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/help/support/bereaved-family-friends
We hope that helps and as always if you need us we’re here
for you.
Take care,
Hannah – Support Line Officer.
