  • Loss of my Friend

Hi, I am new here, a friend recommended it. At the beginning of the month my friend died from a type of pneumonia that was caused by chemotherapy. Seems so cruel she had fought breast cancer then the cure had killed her. I thought I was coping OK but a few things have happened to make me realise that isn't the case. I don't have anyone to talk to about it as family just don't mention it although my daughter did say I was bound to find it tough as my friend and I had known each other for 33years. Sorry for the length of this! X

    Hi Megwall,

Welcome to the Marie Curie Community. I am sorry to read about the death of your longstanding friend.

Everybody copes with death and loss in a different way. You have recognised that you are not coping as ok as you thought you were. It is important to know that there is no right or wrong way to grieve. Not being able to talk about your loss can be difficult if you are the type of person who processes emotions and thoughts by talking about them. We have some information where you can read about bereavement here, and information about accessing support here.

Many people tell us they find it helpful to talk through how they are feeling. If you would like to talk to us you can call our Freephone Support Line on 0800 090 2309 or drop us a line via Web Chat: https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/help

    Best wishes
