Hi, we had this dreadful news in January. My husband has always been a fit healthy man until September last year when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer which knocked us for six but the prognosis was very good so we got on with it, but he was suddenly taken ill in January & was rushed in for a lifesaving operation as he’d had a bleed on the brain & the tumour was then discovered. We’re both finding it hard to come to terms with & sometimes I don’t know whether I’m coming or going. Would be glad of any advice. Thanks

    Hello Joli,

We are sorry to read about what you and your husband are going through. Being diagnosed with a terminal illness can evoke a range of emotions which can fluctuate and vary. It is understandable you say you don’t know if you are coming or going. We have information on our website on feelings you and your husband may be experiencing and how they can affect you. You can reach this information here: https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/help/support/diagnosed/recent-diagnosis/feelings  .Finding ways to cope with these feelings can be overwhelming and many people find activities such as complementary therapies or meeting with support groups can help them cope with what they are dealing with. We offer some suggestions on coping with your feelings on our webpage here: https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/help/support/diagnosed/recent-diagnosis/coping .

You may already be aware of an organisation called The Brain Tumor Trust Charity. They can offer services designed to support people living or caring for someone with a brain tumor. You can find out more about what they can offer here: https://www.thebraintumourcharity.org/get-support/ .

Many people tell us they find it helpful to talk through how they are feeling. If either of you would like a listening ear then you can reach our Freephone Support Line on 0800 090 2309 or via our webchat function here: https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/help/support/marie-curie-support-line  .

    Take care,

    Ross
