Hi I'm new. My Mother In law was unexpectedly diagnosed Easter 2017 with Brain cancer. We then went on to find out that it was terminal secondary cancer. She had the tumour removed and then followed on with radiotherapy, which then followed onto chemo as the tumour was in her lung and spread to the adrenal glands. This week has been hard on the family as my mil is all my hubby has left from his family apart from me and our 2 daughters. I've currently got flu and can't go near and it's hurting me. She's been having excruciating headaches and is unsteady on her feet, her GP prescribed morphine for her last Thurs, and they would come out at some point today, but she was being sick with it so was waiting until she was in pain before taking the morphine. Now on slow release tablet and palliative care was spoken about, to which we are now waiting to hear about. I feel s if she's went downhill really fast this past week or 2 and not even sure about Christmas.

Update My Mother In Law passed away peacefully on Wednesday 22nd Nov at home.

    Hello Mum2two,

Welcome to the Marie Curie Community.  I am sorry to read about your mother in laws diagnosis and how quickly it feels her health has now deteriorated.

Supporting a loved one with a terminal condition can be hard on the whole family at times as you are experiencing, there is some useful information in these sections of the website about caring for someone with a terminal illness here, and you can learn more about palliative care and the roles of Health Professionals that may be  involved here.

Many people tell us they find it helpful to talk through how their experiences and how they are feeling. If you or your husband would like a listening ear you can call our Freephone Support Line on 0800 090 2309 or drop us a line via Web Chat: https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/help

    Best wishes
