    Hi Markant,

Thank you for sharing with us and others about your personal situation and recent diagnosis. It’s understandable that this has all come as a shock to you and your family.

It’s very natural to have many different thoughts and feelings about your illness. Emotions can be difficult for you, and for the people close to you, to deal with and it can be normal to react to a diagnosis in different ways. We have information that you may find useful to take a look at on our website about coping with feelings, and reactions of family and friends which you can view here: https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/help/support/diagnosed

I’m sorry to read that you were on your own when you were told that you have cancer. Having to then inform your family of the situation must have been such a challenging and emotional conversation to say the least. It’s understandable that you are thankful to have got through that conversation with them. If you need to talk about anything, including this experience, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us here on the Support Line. You can reach us on Freephone 0800 090 2309, or by continuing to talk to us through here.

I’m glad to read that your wife has been your rock and that she has been supporting you with things so well. People often tell us that talking about how you’re feeling can be helpful. Some people choose to do this with those that are closest to them, whereas others prefer to talk to someone that they are not familiar with. The important thing is to try and find a way of coping and accessing support that suits you. Reaching out through this online community could be one of the ways you do this and hopefully others here will share with you their personal experiences and offer their support too.

    Take care,

    Sam – Support Line Team
