Hi Janet
I am sorry to read about your Mum’s illness, you don’t say what that it is but it is normal to feel a wide range of emotions when a loved one is diagnosed. People have told us how overwhelming the first few weeks and months can be following a diagnosis, and this can apply to the family as much as the patient. We have further information on the range of feelings you may be having here: https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/help/terminal-illness/emotions/feelings
Your Husband may not always know how best to help you, as people all handle emotions differently. Sometimes it can be helpful to talk to people that are a step removed from the situation such a friends, medical professionals or ourselves here at the Support Line (tel 0800 090 2309). You both may find the information in this section of the website good to read as well: https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/help/terminal-illness/family-friends
If you would like to talk about things in more detail please call our Free phone Support Line on 0800 090 2309, or drop us a line via Web Chat: https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/help
Best Wishes
