NHL

Hi there my name is Ryan and I am a 30 year old male. I have been wondering recently what the effects would be if I wanted to start a family. You see when I was 5 years old I was diagnosed with NHL which was in my kidney and spread to my groin. Now being 30! (Still cannot believe it) I am wanting to start a family with my wife but I am unsure about fertility because it had spread to my groin and wondering if anyone else has experienced the same dilemma as I am right now. It is affecting me because I am of an age where I can fully comprehend the things that happened to me when I was a child and I am wondering if anyone out there would be able to help or point me in the correct direction! Kind regards Ryan Spencer

Hi Ryan

Thank you for reaching out to us and sharing your experience, that is incredibly brave of you, the reality of what happened to you as a child and the effects it may have had must be emotionally challenging now as you try and make sense of it all and move forward.

My name is Marla; I am a nurse on the Marie Curie Information & Support Line. Whilst I am not permitted to give you any advice and do not have access to any of your medical records, I can sign post you to where you may be able to get more information and advice. I am not sure if you may have already spoken to your GP, that would be my first suggestion as they may want to carry out some tests or refer you to a specialist in that field. They may also have more background medical information from that time in your childhood that could be helpful and direct what support if any you may need.

I hope this response is helpful, you can always call us here on the Information & Support Line on 0800 090 2309 should you want to speak to someone directly or through webchat or email, this is a safe space for you to talk. Please come back to us at any point should you want or need to. Take care.

Marla
