Life insurance and critical illness

Hi everyone,

I’m Jamie, and I work in our policy team, looking at issues around financial security at the end of life.

We’ve come across a few cases of people have trouble accessing a critical illness payout, or accessing an early life insurance payout after being diagnosed with a terminal illness, and we’re interested in whether this is a widespread issue. This might be:

- Difficulties with the insurance company’s definition of terminal illness, or problems with medical evidence

- Difficulties with accessing a payout if you’re nearing the end of the insurance policy

- Wider difficulties with insurance companies (e.g. delays, poor customer service)

- A payout causing other problems, for example with benefits like Universal Credit

- Anything else!

If this is something you’ve got experience of, either directly or relating to a friend or family member, and you would be happy to have an informal chat about it, please get in touch at support@mariecurie.org.uk

Thank you so much for reaching out to our Online Community members Jamie.

If anyone has any experience that they would like to share please feel free to get in touch.
