Looking for guidance about how to access hospice at home services for my very sick mum who is at end of life

Welcome to our Online Community. We’re sorry to read about your mum who is at end of life.
Here at Marie Curie, our Nurses and Health Care Assistants provide end of life care and support for anyone affected by a terminal illness. The type of service we offer differs from area to area. To find out about the services that may be available in your mum’s area, it might be worth having a conversation with your mum’s district nurse or GP. They may be able to refer your mum to our services when it’s appropriate or alternatively, if we’re not commissioned in your mum’s area let you know what other services are available. When it comes to getting social care and support within the home, you may also wish to contact your local council or health and social care trust. They can undertake an assessment of your mum’s needs. You can arrange this by contacting your mum’s GP or district nurse, or contacting them directly with mum’s permission.
If someone has a more complex health care needs, they may be able to access care and support through the NHS. This is called NHS continuing healthcare (NHS CHC) and like social care, can also provide support in someone’s home. An initial assessment can be arranged through the district nurse or GP. In some circumstances, if someone’s condition is worsening quickly or they might be nearing the end of their life, then they may be fast tracked on to NHS CHC.
